We are pleased to introduce Silicon Testers, a User Testing program that is meant to serve as a simple match-making platform between everyday users who are interested and able to trial new product and provide feedback and projects releasing new products and features.

Better Products, Better User Experience

At the core of the Product Development cycle are Experimentation and Iteration. Teams create hypothesis of what they think may work, often many tiny experiments running in parallel, which are then validated by presenting them to real users.

Silicon Craftsmen, as the Product and User Experience Guild, exists to facilitate and improve the design, development and constant improvement of the products and services being built on Near. We will be working closely with Projects building on Near to design User Tests and recruit suitable participants. Learn more about what User Testing is and best practices.

High Quality User Testers

Silicon Testers will be among the first cohorts of people outside of the team to use and provide feedback on the product. Hence the importance of having a diverse group of user testers that is representative of the real world demographics and conditions the product is aiming for.

How It Works

We will be working with each Project requesting user testers to define the appropriate parameters. In general, most Tests will have the following structure:

  1. People interested in participating in the program register on the Silicon Testers Database.
  2. Silicon Testers will be notified via email of new opportunities. These will be offered on a first come, first served basis to eligible Testers. The size of each cohort will be determined by the needs of the Project requesting the Test.
  3. Participating Silicon Testers will:
  • fill out a preliminary questionnaire (background information);
  • be given a list of tasks or actions to perform on the product to be tested;
  • the Tester will record themselves using screen capture software Loom, while narrating their experience and thoughts in real time;
  • fill out a few more questions after the task has been completed. Include link to Loom recording.

4. Users that have successfully completed the above steps will receive remuneration for their participation once all testing has been concluded.

Remuneration

We want to attract and retain cohorts of Silicon Testers who are able to provide detailed, exhaustive feedback when needed.

Silicon Testers will be remunerated on a Test by Test basis. The value of each session to be determined depending on the complexity of the task and time required to complete.

User Testing sessions may be funded by the Near Foundation, Project Building on Near, or both.

Silicon Testers should treat any potential income from being a User Tester as a side hustle, a fun way to earn some Near for being an active contributor to the community. We can not make any guarantees as to frequency of opportunities.
